Sarah Sugden (played by Katie Hill) has been eager to have a child and underwent IVF treatment earlier this year, but during the process, the Emmerdale character was diagnosed with cervical cancer. In a heartbreaking twist, Sarah had to have an emergency hysterectomy and came around from the operation feeling completely devastated.
ITV soap spoilers have revealed her gran, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) becomes concerned for vulnerable Sarah as her return to the village serves as a stark reminder of the price she's paid for her operation. Trying to move forward and help out her family, Sarah offers to assist her grandad, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), with a poster for Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) memorial.
Aware of Cain's emotional load, Sarah puts on a brave face for him, but when he turns away, her facade falls apart. Despite Charity's pleas, Sarah stubbornly refuses to rest following her hysterectomy.
Keen to distract herself from her recovery, Sarah heads to the garage and offers to help out. However, mechanic Cain is displeased to see her working, and he, too, is seeking his own distractions.
However, horror unfolds after Sarah and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) are involved in a car crash after the latter drives a faulty car and faints behind the wheel. The women are rushed to hospital following the incident and treated for their injuries.
During Cain's visit to his granddaughter's hospital room, a tearful Sarah tells him that the accident made her realise how much she yearns for a family of her own.
Cain is visibly heartbroken, and when Charity arrives, she's shocked to hear him suggest surrogacy as a way for Sarah to achieve her dreams.
Charity is frustrated with him for giving Sarah false hope, but Cain pledges to help Sarah have a child, no matter what it takes. Has he got a possible surrogate in mind who can help? Will it cause a rift within the Dingle family?
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
