Keeping your kitchen stocked with jars of sauces can make for a fuss-free meal on days you simply don't feel like cooking. Whether you're making a quick pasta dish, or grabbing a teaspoon of garlic puree when you don't feel like chopping it yourself, it's essential to know how to store sauces to ensure they don't go to waste.

While sauces should be refrigerated after opening, they often need to be used within a week or two which isn't always ideal, especially if you've already planned and prepped ahead of time. Many of us are guilty of only using half a jar before having to discard it, but Casey Major-Bunce who shares money-saving tips and hacks on her Instagram account @majormumhacks, has revealed a clever way to keep sauces fresh for up to six months.

Casey shared her trick for keeping sauces fresh on Instagram, and in the caption of the video she said: "I hate food waste but what I hate even more is faffing around chopping garlic, chilli and all those fiddly bits."

Once you've opened a jar of sauce or a paste for cooking, instead of placing it in the fridge and storing it here, Casey advised placing them in some parchment paper and storing them in the freezer instead.

The method which doesn't require any "fancy techniques" simply involves adding a spoonful of sauce or paste to slices of parchment paper and freezing them.

Casey separates the jar into a few slices of parchment paper too, meaning you don't have to defrost a bunch at once and run the risk of not using it all. She also adds each condiment to separate ziplock bags, making it easy to grab them from the freezer.

Instead of going off after a week or two, sauces and pasta will last for six months when kept in the freezer.

Casey also pointed out that baking paper is biodegradable, so this method is a "win win" when it comes to cutting down on waste.

Keeping sauces in ice cube trays is another popular way of prolonging their use, but this can take up unnecessary space in your freezer. Instead, spreading them out onto parchment paper keeps them compact and leaves more space to store other items.

One Instagram user commented on Casey's video and said: "Seriously helpful. Just went through the fridge and most jars like this need to be thrown" and another added "Genius! I've always used ice cube trays but this is a great idea".
