If you are fond of road trips or travel on National Highways daily, then this news can give you relief (Highway travel cost relief). The government has made a huge reduction of 50% in toll tax on the National Highway. This reduction has been done especially on those highways where flyovers, bridges, tunnels, and elevated stretches are built. That is, now the cost of your travel will be reduced. The new rule of toll tax (toll reduction) has been implemented. Travelers will soon start getting their benefits.

How much toll was collected till now?

According to an official of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), due to the old rules, some special infrastructure has been built on every kilometer on the highway, for which you had to pay 10 times the average toll charge, so that the cost of that infrastructure can be recovered. But now in the new rules, this toll will be reduced by 50%.

What is the new formula for reducing toll?

Let's understand it with an example. Suppose a part of the national highway is 40 kilometers long. And this entire part has structures, i.e., flyovers, bridges, or tunnels. In such a case, two methods are adopted to calculate the toll.

First method - The length of the structure is multiplied by 10. That is, 10x40 = 400 kilometers.

Second method - The length of the entire part of the highway is multiplied by 5. That is, 5x40 = 200 kilometers.

Now, the toll tax will be collected on the basis of whichever is less. That is, it is clear that the toll tax will be levied only on half the length of the highway, which will reduce the toll tax by up to 50%.

Why was the change made?
The government wants to reduce the cost of travel for passengers. Keeping this in mind, this change has been made.

Who will benefit?
The new rule of the government will benefit those people more who travel on such highways where more than 50% structures are included. That means bridges, tunnels and flyovers are built on more than 50% of those highways. For example, highways like Dwarka Expressway connecting Delhi to Gurugram till now had a toll of Rs 317, which can be reduced to Rs 153.
