New Delhi: KL Rahul slammed a half-century, while skipper Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant shared an unbeaten stand of 51 runs for the 4th wicket to help India post 177/3 at Lunch on Day 4 of the ongoing 2nd Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, July 05. India lost Karun Nair early in the first session, but Gill and Pant joined hands to help the visitors extend their lead to 357 runs at Lunch.
Nair could only add 19 runs to his overnight score of 7 as India resumed their second innings on 64/1 on Day 4. Pacer Brydon Carse dismissed Nair on 26 off 46 balls to draw the first blood for the hosts on Day 4. Rahul continued his impressive run to notch up a fifty, however, he failed to convert it into a big score. The prolific right-hander was cleaned by Josh Tongue after scoring a gritty 55 off 84 deliveries.
Rahul and Nair added 45 runs for the second wicket. Gill and Pant joined hands after the duo’s dismissal to steady the ship for India. The Indian skipper, who slammed a brilliant 269 runs in the first innings, remained not out on 24, while Pant raced to 41 off just 35 balls. The duo added 51 runs for the 4th wicket to take India 177/3 in 38 overs.
