Vijay Sethupathi has spoken out for the first time regarding the controversy surrounding his son Surya Vijay Sethupathi's viral video. The actor addressed the issue publicly during the premiere of Phoenix, Surya’s debut film, where he also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the film’s team and supporters.

As reported by India Glitz, several reporters raised questions about whether Vijay had allegedly requested the removal of videos related to his son from social media. Responding with composure, the actor offered a clarification.

Vijay Sethupathi responded to the queries without deflecting or avoiding the subject. He said,“If something like that happened, it might have been done unknowingly or by someone else. I sincerely apologise if anyone was hurt or misunderstood the intention.”

Following the film’s screening, Vijay was also seen warmly congratulating his son and embracing him with pride. He also praised director Anl Arasu for helming the film and shared a brief moment of celebration with the team.

Surya Sethupathi’s acting debut in Phoenix

Phoenix marks the entry of Surya Sethupathi into the world of cinema. Directed by renowned stunt master-turned-filmmaker Anl Arasu, the film features Surya in the role of a young wrestler taking on powerful adversaries. The movie also stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sampath Raj, Devadarshini, J Vignesh, and Abhinakshathra in prominent roles.

Produced by Rajalakshmy Anl Arasu under the AK Braveman Picturess banner, Phoenix hit theatres on July 4, clashing with Siddharth’s 3BHK at the box office.

On the professional front, Vijay was last seen in Ace and is gearing up for the release of Thalaivan Thalaivii, a comedy directed by Pandiraj, scheduled to hit screens on July 25. He also has Train, a thriller by director Mysskin, currently in post-production.
