For the past 25 years, Kevin McCloud has hosted Channel 4's beloved renovation series, Grand Designs. In this series, the expert showcases the trials, victories, and creativity of those building their dream homes. The often ambitious feat documents the entire process from design and planning, featuring a range of architectural styles, from eco-friendly homes to modern marvels, as well as the dramatic updates of existing structures.

However, as viewers often tune in for the emotional rollercoaster which comes with these dramatic renovations, it was revealed that the broadcaster turned down the opportunity to film a major project in Yorkshire because it was going too well. According to the Yorkshire Post, the Grand Design's production company identified the building of Hawksworth's Moor Reservoir as the perfect project, but Channel 4 decided "there wasn't enough drama". This came despite its stunning location and adventurous architecture.

According to the outlet, Hawksworth Moor Reservoir's former owner, Jonathan, opened up about Channel 4's U-turn on the property.

He said: "We thought it would go ahead and had even briefed about booking in 'Kevin days' but then got an email saying Channel 4 didn't want to go with the project because they thought it would run too smoothly and wouldn't provide enough drama."

"It was definitely a compliment, in a way," as he recounted: "I spent a number of years restoring a 16th-century farmhouse in Haworth and I liked living there, but I wanted another project and I wanted something different, a bigger challenge."

"I've always moved up a level each time I renovated, and this is definitely the pinnacle."

The country mansion sits on 12 acres of land and boasts four en-suite bedrooms, a cinema room, a game room with seating and an open-plan kitchen that has a boardroom-style dining table with 14 seats.

The property also includes an annex with three bedrooms, a gym, an office, a shower room, and a kitchen in the garage.

Jonathan admitted: "The build went very smoothly, we went over budget, but there was a conscious decision to spend more on the heat recovery and ventilation units and the kitchen. There were no sleepless nights."
