Lucknow. While the Indian cricket team faced a new challenge after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the Test, young batsman Shubman Gill created history with his batting. In the Edgbaston Test match, Gill played a historic innings of 269 runs in the first innings and in the second innings, the total score crossed by 300 runs.

New record as captain

Gill has become the first captain of India to score more than 300 runs in a Test. Earlier this record was in the name of Virat Kohli, who scored 243 and 50 runs against Sri Lanka in the 2017 Delhi Test. Shubman, while breaking this record, established himself as a captain.

Chhaya Gill show in Edgbaston

In the second Test match played against England at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill scored 269 runs in the first innings and rescued the sixes of the opposition bowlers. In the second innings too, he presented a brilliant sample of his form by scoring half -century.

Gill has become the first Indian captain to score a double century in Tests on England soil. Earlier, no Indian captain achieved this feat in England.

Bat also shines in leads

Earlier in the first Test of the series, Gill scored a brilliant century in Leeds, making India a strong hold on England. Gill, playing his first Test series as captain, has scored more than a century in both matches.

After Rohit Sharma, taking command of the captaincy was nothing short of a fire test for Shubman Gill, but he has given a befitting reply to critics with his performance. Gill’s performance is a very auspicious sign for the future of Indian cricket.
