New Delhi: Sublime century from skipper Shubman Gill and a fiery knock by vice-captain Rishabh Pant put India in total command on the fourth day of the Edgbaston Test match against England. Resuming at an overnight score of 64/1, India went to Tea at 304/4 with Gill and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja solid on the crease with unbeaten scores of 100 and 25 respectively.

Gill’s eighth Test century and fifth against England, propelled India’s overall lead to 484 runs after the Indian batters added 240 runs in the first two sessions of Day 4. Pant, who scored 65 runs off 58 balls, was the only wicket India lost in the post-Lunch session while the visitors had lost two wickets in form of Karun Nair and KL Rahul in the first session of the day.

While Nair was unfortunate as he departed after scoring just 26 runs, Rahul, who held the fort for the side from Day 3 last session, scoring 55 runs off 84 balls which included 10 boundaries.

Meanwhile, England, who were looking for wickets, could only claim three wickets from the two sessions of play on Saturday. As the India side’s lead is nearing 500, they would be looking to add few more runs to their already big total declare the innings handing over the reigns to the bowlers who have the entire fifth day and the left over part of Day 4 to get the visitors to a win.

If India emerge victorious in the game, this will be a historic win as the side has never won at Edgbaston. Out of a total of 8 Tests played, India have lost 7 of them while the 8th one has ended in a draw.
