Guwahati, July 5: In a major step forward for wildlife preservation, REC Limited, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, has announced a contribution of ₹5.3 crore through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program to aid Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
The Chief Minister of Assam shared the news on a microblogging platform, stating, "@RECLindia, a Maharatna PSU, has pledged ₹5.3 crore under its CSR initiative to support Kaziranga." He further noted that this funding will enhance solar energy and drinking water facilities in over 120 anti-poaching camps, significantly benefiting the frontline forest personnel.
Kaziranga National Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its population of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, alongside tigers, elephants, wild buffalo, and a variety of other wildlife. The park's forest staff are essential in monitoring the expansive grasslands and wetlands, often facing difficult terrains and threats from poachers.
The newly allocated funds are anticipated to improve access to clean drinking water and reliable power sources in the remote anti-poaching camps throughout the park. These enhancements will not only bolster security measures but also uplift the spirits of forest guards who frequently operate in challenging and isolated environments.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his appreciation to REC Limited for its commitment to conservation efforts.
Previously known as Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, REC Limited holds Maharatna status and plays a vital role in executing the government's key power sector initiatives. This CSR contribution to Kaziranga aligns with its dedication to sustainability and community welfare.
