Saturday Kitchen took an unexpected turn today (Saturday, 5th July) when a high-profile celebrity chef phoned in during the live broadcast.
After a mouth-watering segment featuring Rick Stein in Lancashire, host Matt Tebbutt was back in the studio dishing up a classic carbonara alongside Gennaro Contaldo.
Just as Tebbutt was gearing up to chat with Fleur East, the star of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical, Gennaro's cooking demonstration hit pause for an impromptu phone call.
It turned out to be Jamie Oliver, causing sheer delight and chuckles among those present.
Jamie, a celebrated personality in the culinary world, greeted them with a jolly "Hello everyone!" from the other end, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the entire Saturday Kitchen gang, reports the Mirror.
Amidst the light-hearted exchange, Jamie divulged what he'd been up to that Saturday morning, assuring everyone he'd switch on the show momentarily.
"Just come back from the market," Jamie shared over the line. "I'm going to be home in two minutes and I'm going to turn the TV on."
His revelation elicited a warm "Aww" from Tebbutt's guests this week, including acclaimed talent Clare Smyth, wine connoisseur Helen McGinn, and master chocolatier Paul A. Young.
The BBC presenter couldn't help but jest: "Jamie's just been down the market, he actually lives that life.
"He goes down the market, buys his stuff, then goes home on his little scooter."
The exchange continued with a bout of affection as Gennaro expressed to Jamie, "I love you and miss you!", before Matt steered the show back on course with a swift transition to the upcoming feature.
Italian chef Gennaro, a beloved figure on the programme, has sent fans into a frenzy after his recent Saturday Kitchen appearance, with adoring messages flooding in on X (formerly Twitter).
"Gennaro is the GREATEST!!" gushed one viewer. "I had the honour and privilege to get to know him years ago during the opens of all the Jamie's Italians.
"His passion and love is second to one. Plus his food is always perfection."
Another avid fan declared, "27 minutes in and this is already a vintage #SaturdayKitchen. Gennaro putting in an all-timer performance - but you come to expect the best from Matt and co."
Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays from 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
