Al Murray has been a fixture in the British comedy scene since the 90s after making the nation laugh as part of Harry Hill's BBC Radio 4 show, Harry Hill's Fruit Corner. It was there he launched his iconic Pub Landlord persona, which eventually became the central character for a hit Sky One sitcom, Time Gentlemen Please.
The character was such a success that Murray's wildly successful Pub Landlord theatre show, My Gaff, My Rules, was short-listed for the prestigious Olivier Award in 2002. While the comedian's career is on an upward trajectory, following his 2024 tour, little is known about Murray's personal life, including his romantic relationships. The 57-year-old was first married to Katherine Perry; however, their five-year marriage ended in 2000.
The funny man eventually moved on and wedded Amber Hargreaves in 2002, and during their relationship, the now estranged couple welcomed two daughters.
They share Scarlett, 21, and Willow, 17, and lived together in Chiswick, West London, before their marriage broke down in 2012.
At the time, Murray was said to be "devastated" and "in bits" by the break-up, as Amber told The Sun: "It's just one of those really sad things. There's no one else involved, and it's very amicable.
"We still love and respect each other a lot. We've got little people, so we're trying to do our best by them."
A source claimed: "He's a million miles away from being the Al Murray everyone recognises right now. In private, he's shell-shocked and understandably struggling to come to terms with it all.
"He thought he and Amber would last forever, but it's all fallen apart, and he's moved out. That's been one of the hardest things for him, and he's missing his girls like mad."
His spokesperson stated: "Al has separated from his wife. It is not what he wanted. Clearly, it is a distressing situation for the whole family."
Since the divorce, Murray now has a seven-year-old daughter, Daisy, with his partner, journalist Eleanor Relf, who currently works as a freelance entertainment writer.
The couple is incredibly tight-lipped about their relationship, as she and his other loved ones rarely make appearances on the comedian's social media pages.
