Jamie Carragher was left stunned by Anthony Elanga's "absolutely electrifying" pace during Sky Sports' coverage of Nottingham Forest versus West Ham United back in May. The winger had just utilised his blistering speed to earn a free-kick that resulted in Nikola Milenkovic's match-winner for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

That specific Elanga burst proved to be the quickest recorded at the London Stadium encounter and came as little shock given the wide man's reputation for extraordinary velocity. The Newcastle United target also clocked the second-fastest sprint across the entire previous campaign, only trailing Tottenham's Micky van de Ven, who recorded a 10.31 metres per second dash in September.

Whilst Elanga may have missed out on the season's top sprint, he dominated the rankings with an impressive six entries in the top 18 fastest runs of the year. The Swedish international also secured fifth place among the Premier League's speediest players last term, reaching velocities of 36.2km/h.

The previous season witnessed him leading the attacking pace statistics with a peak speed of 36.91 km/h - representing a 7.7% improvement on his earlier seasonal best.

Newcastle supporters, who remain hopeful for encouraging developments regarding the club's chase for Elanga's services, are envisioning an attacking line featuring the 23 year old alongside Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. Precious few Premier League defenders will fancy confronting what could arguably become the division's most rapid attacking triumvirate.

Elanga demonstrated his impressive speed against his former team, Manchester United, earlier this year. He covered 85 metres in just nine seconds with the ball at his feet, culminating in a smooth counter-attack for Forest.

Speaking about the goal, Elanga said: "It is about attacking the space and getting to the opposite goal as quick as I can," adding, "I saw the space and I believe I'm one of the fastest players in the league."

He also mentioned his improved finishing skills, stating, "The finish is something I have been trying to work on. Left foot or right foot, I am quite comfortable with both feet this season."

Newcastle have been eager to inject pace into their backline in recent transfer windows. However, Elanga's addition would provide a significant boost in terms of speed and power at the other end of the pitch.
