Birmingham. On the fourth day of Edgbaston Test, Team India kept England completely on the backfoot, keeping their dominance in both batting and bowling areas. While Shubman Gill entered the name in the record book with his brilliant batting, the fast balls of Mohammad Siraj and Akashdeep increased the difficulties of English batsmen. India declared their second innings for 427/6 and set a huge target of 608 runs in front of England. In response, England scored 72 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the day’s play.
Indian captain Shubman Gill scored 161 runs in the second innings. He hit 13 fours and 8 sixes in 162 balls. Earlier, he scored 269 runs in the first innings. Gill has become the second and ninth batsman in the world to score a double century and century in the same Test. For India, this achievement was achieved by Sunil Gavaskar.
India started the day by 64 runs for one wicket. Karun Nair (26 runs) could not once again turn a good start into a big innings. KL Rahul scored a brilliant 55 runs, while Rishabh Pant scored an aggressive innings of 65 runs in 58 balls. Finally, Ravindra Jadeja strengthened the team’s innings by scoring 69* runs. India declared the innings by scoring 427 runs and gave England a target of 608 runs to win.
England’s second innings started was very poor. Mohammad Siraj gave India the first success by dismissing Jack Croly (9).
Then Akashdeep first bowled Ben Docket (25) on a brilliant injection. After this, Joe Root (6) was scattered and made the Indian team sit on a driving seat in the match. However, Oli Pope (24)* and Harry Brook (15) remained at the crease till the stumps and hold England’s expectations. England are still 536 runs behind the target.
