The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr had a scary brush with death after he was involved in a horrific car crash. Back in 1980, Starr, 85, met Barbara Bach on the set of the film Caveman and the couple instantly hit it off. Just months later, the duo were heading to a party in Surrey when their visibility became reduced after a dense fog appeared. Approaching a black-spot at the Robin Hood Roundabout on the A3 at 60 mph, Starr was forced to swerve to avoid hitting an oncoming lorry.

This sent the couple on a fifty-yard skid which resulted in Starr's white Mercedes colliding head-on into two lampposts. Despite suffering an injury to his leg, Starr managed to pull his partner to safety. After removing his Bond star girlfriend from the wreckage, the musician reportedly headed back to the car to retrieve a pack of cigarettes.

Somehow, both walked away from the crash with minor injuries, but the terrifying collision did completely write off Starr's supercar.

In an eerie coincidence, the accident took place just half a mile away from where Marc Bolan tragically lost his life in a car accident just three years prior.

Just three weeks later after their crash, Bach, 77, informed her father that she was going to marry The Beatles star. The two tied the knot in a ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall a year later in 1981 and have been married ever since.

The couple don't have any children together, however, Starr has two sons, Zak and Jason, and daughter Lee, from his previous marriage to Maureen Cox.

Meanwhile Bach shares daughter Francesca and son Gianni with her former actor ex-husband Augusto Gregorini.

Bach appeared as Anya in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me alongside Roger Moore in 1977, meaning the actress was a Hollywood star in her own right before crossing paths with Starr.

Opening up about their relationship, the actress explained how their on-screen love translated into real life.

She said: "Working, we got along fine, we spent time together, but we each had other people, our respective friends. Then, suddenly, two weeks before the end of shooting, we fell in love.

"We changed from friendly love to being in love, but it was just before we left Mexico. We had an on-camera love affair and somehow it just spilled over nicely into real life. It wasn't quite love at first sight but it began to grow within days of meeting each other."
