It’s been a busy few weeks for Chelsea, both in the Club World Cup and in the transfer market.

Enzo Maresca’s side have booked their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA competition, where they’ll take on Brazilian outfit Fluminense on Tuesday. Off the pitch, they’ve unveiled the signings of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, significantly strengthening their forward line ahead of the new season.

Now, attention turns to outgoings, as well as areas of the squad still in need of reinforcements. Noni Madueke is among those linked with a move away, while goalkeeper and defence could still be on the agenda.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours…

Chelsea aim to 'hijack' rival's move for defender

Having bolstered their attacking options with the signings of Pedro and Gittens, alongside Liam Delap, who arrived earlier in the summer, focus is now shifting to other parts of the squad. Central defence is one area likely to see additions, especially after missing out on Dean Huijsen.

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are among a handful of Premier League clubs interested in Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini. Earlier this week, The Times reported that Newcastle have made the 21-year-old a ‘top target’ this summer.

Manchester United and Tottenham have also been credited with interest, while Atalanta are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of €60m (£52m). Scalvini is also attracting interest from Serie A sides including Napoli, Juventus, and Inter Milan.

football.london says: So far, Newcastle appear the most heavily linked with Scalvini and his availability has understandably caught the attention of several top clubs across Europe. Who has the upper hand remains unclear, but Chelsea’s name being in the mix is interesting. Having already been linked with numerous defenders this window, it’s one to keep an eye on as the window progresses.

Madueke asking price 'set'

Elsewhere, Madueke continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, amid ongoing interest from London rivals Arsenal. Following reports that the winger has agreed personal terms with the Gunners, the latest update sheds light on Chelsea’s asking price.

According to The Independent's Miguel Delaney, Chelsea are seeking a fee in the region of £50m for Madueke, who has five years, plus an optional sixth, remaining on his current contract. However, the report adds that Arsenal hope to negotiate the price down to around £40m.

football.london says: Given Chelsea’s attacking additions this summer, a Madueke exit feels increasingly likely. It wouldn’t be the first time a player has moved between the two London clubs - Kepa Arrizabalaga being a recent example. Still, Chelsea are well within their rights to hold out for a higher fee given the length of Madueke’s contract. That said, they may also need to weigh the challenges of a bloated squad, particularly in forward areas.
