News India Live, Digital Desk: Battle over languages in Maharashtra: In Maharashtra politics, there has been a hot debate over languages once again! This time BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has made such a bet, which has put both Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray in trouble. Dubey has demanded that in Maharashtra, Hindi, Marathi and English should be made mandatory in school education. But his real target is something else.
In fact, Nishikant Dubey raised the issue of some Urdu signboards in Maharashtra in Parliament and launched a scathing attack on the Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). He said that if a signboard can be installed in Urdu everywhere in Maharashtra, then why should Hindi language not be taught or why it cannot be mandatory?
Dubey’s gesture was directly towards the politics of the Shiv Sena in which he has been doing big agitations for the Marathi language, but according to Dubey, he is silent about Urdu. He especially surrounded Raj Thackeray’s MNS, which has often agitated to remove non-Marathi signboards. Dubey raised the question that when MNS workers give a soot vessel on the Hindi signboard, why do they not see Urdu signboards?
This debate is not only to languages, but also with regional identity, political stand and attempts to support vote banks. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has always been known for Marathi Asmita and Marathi language, while Raj Thackeray’s MNS has also made its own identity on this issue. Now Nishikant Dubey has raised the issue of Hindi and Urdu and brought them both in a situation where they can find it difficult to answer.
It will be interesting to see what color this new debate brings this new debate on ‘Tribhasha Formula’ and Urdu.
