Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Valencia star Javi Guerra. The Red Devils are keen to breathe a fresh lease of life into their squad, with reinforcements being eyed in all departments as part of a major overhaul.

The Red Devils are keen to shakeup their attack following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo their top target and a host of strikers being assessed. However, it is not just in the final third where United are focusing their attention.

Several defenders and goalkeepers have come under consideration, and the Old Trafford outfit appear to be closing in on the signing of another midfielder. According to CalcioMercato.com, the Valencia playmaker Guerra is 'close' to joining the Red Devils.

The Spaniard impressed at the Under-21 European Championship following a strong campaign with Valencia, and acquiring the services of the 22-year-old would be a major sign of intent from United.

Guerra reportedly has a £87million release clause in his contract with Valencia, and it is unclear the fee in which United are willing to pay to acquire his services at this stage. But with talks ongoing over other marquee deals, it appears unlikely that they have activated said clause.

With Casemiro set to stay at the Theatre of Dreams, the signing of Guerra could be bad news for Kobbie Mainoo. The England international has struggled to fit into Amorim's 3-4-3 system over the past few months, with his profile not suiting the demands of his 8s or 10s.

As a result, Mainoo was previously tipped to leave his boyhood side, with Chelsea cited as being among his admirers. However, speculation surrounding the 20-year-old has simmered down in recent weeks - but United's potential acquisition of Guerra could put Mainoo's suitors on red alert once more.

The youngster has highlighted his quality on numerous occasions for the Red Devils, but United may look to cash in on his services if they decide that Amorim is their long-term manager - and thus there are no signs that Mainoo will break into his plans.

Guerra is a versatile option for the ex-Sporting boss to work with, and he could be viewed as the ideal option to rotate with Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.
