Bollywood is accustomed to fresh faces causing a splash, but few have had as vibrant and intriguing a journey as Sara Arjun’s. Once touted as India’s best-paid child actor, Sara has transitioned into a completely different league, starring as the leading lady opposite Ranveer Singh in Aditya Dhar’s highly awaited espionage thriller Dhurandhar. The film’s first look, unveiled on June 6 coinciding with Ranveer’s 40th birthday, has not only sparked excitement but also piqued curiosity about the young actress sharing screen space with a superstar in one of the year’s biggest releases.
The Roots of StardomTalent often runs in the family, and that’s certainly true for Sara Arjun. She is the daughter of actor Raj Arjun, who is popular for his intense performances in movies such as Secret Superstar, Thalaivii, Love Hostel, and Black Friday. It didn’t take long for Sara to carve a niche of her own in the spotlight. Before appearing in films, she was well-known on Indian television screens as a lead actress in several high-profile advertisements, including an advertisement for popular McDonald’s.
But it was films that became her true playground. In 2011, at the age of six, she made her Tamil film debut in AL Vijay’s critically successful film Deiva Thirumagal, where she essayed the role of a daughter of a mentally challenged father, who is played by South superstar Vikram. Her acting was genuine, subtle, and well beyond her years, which earned her both praise from the critics and audiences.
Climbing the Ladder: Films and FameSara Arjun’s initial filmography is like a directory of varied and demanding characters. She acted in the Hindi movie 404 in 2011, after which she came back to the Tamil industry with Saivam in 2014, again for AL Vijay. Her performance in Saivam was so appreciated that it was remade in Telugu as Dagudumootha Dandakor in 2015, in which she renewed her role.
Her foray into mainstream Bollywood came with Ek Thi Daayan (2013), where she played Emraan Hashmi’s deceased sister, and later in Jai Ho (2014), where she made a brief appearance as a schoolgirl. In 2019, she portrayed a younger version of Sonam Kapoor’s character in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, showcasing once again how seamlessly she fit into different roles, age groups, and genres.
But one of her most noticeable recent appearances was in Mani Ratnam’s masterpiece Ponniyin Selvan, where she portrayed the younger incarnation of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s legendary character Nandini. Across two parts of the historical epic (2022–2023), her performance added emotional depth to the story, and she gained recognition for holding her own in such a grand ensemble cast.
By 2023, Sara Arjun had achieved what very few child actors manage to: she became the highest-paid child actress in the country, reportedly earning a whopping ₹10 crore.
A New Beginning with DhurandharCut to 2025, and Sara Arjun is no longer a small-time child star anymore; she’s entering the big league now. In Dhurandhar, she shares the screen with no less a person than Ranveer Singh in the female lead role. The movie, helmed by Uri: The Surgical Strike maker Aditya Dhar, is a gripping espionage thriller loosely based on real events, reports say. Alongside Sara and Ranveer, the film also stars stalwarts like R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna.
While much of the film’s plot is still under wraps, what we do know is that Sara appears to be the only female character in a largely male-dominated narrative. Her precise position and the importance of her role are still to be announced, but her presence in such a powerhouse cast is a milestone in her career.
Produced under the B62 Studios banner by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar and presented by Jio Studios, Dhurandhar will have a big-screen release on December 5. People are expecting something big not merely because of the starry cast or Aditya Dhar’s track record but also due to curiosity about Sara Arjun’s entry into a leading role in such a high-octane film.
Looking AheadWith a career spanning over a decade, several languages, and a variety of characters, Sara Arjun has managed to steer clear of the bumpy road from child artist to commercial actress. Her recent appearance in the 2024 teen musical drama Magic, directed by Jersey’s Gowtam Tinnanuri, further shows her willingness to explore new genres. She’s also dabbled in Malayalam cinema (Ann Maria Kalippilaanu, 2016) and played a young version of shooter Chandro Tomar in Saand Ki Aankh (2019).
Now at 20, with over 58.8K Instagram followers and a role that could redefine her career, Sara Arjun stands at the cusp of stardom all over again. From emotional child roles to romantic leads, she’s grown with grace, and Dhurandhar might just be the project that introduces her to an even wider audience.
In a world where many child stars fade away as the years go by, Sara Arjun seems to be doing the opposite, growing stronger, wiser, and more prominent with every step. And come December, the spotlight will be firmly on her as she embarks on this exciting new journey.
