Prithvi Shaw has made a significant move in attempting to revive his cricketing career. The former captain of India U19 has now formally quit the Mumbai team and signed up for Maharashtra for the next domestic season. Shaw received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association and has now confirmed the move.
The 26-year-old batter has had a rough couple of years. Once touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shaw's poor form and indiscipline had him relegated to the background. He was even suspended by Mumbai team for failure to comply with rules governing fitness and conduct. In IPL 2025, Shaw remained unsold in the mega auction despite of the low base price and this indicated how low he had hit.
Now that he has a new beginning, Shaw is optimistic that playing for Maharashtra will restore his confidence and form.
The 26-year-old stated:
"At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricket."

Shaw Likely to Open with Ruturaj Gaikwad
At Maharashtra, Shaw will likely play with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who also leads IPL side Chennai Super Kings. Gaikwad is a laid-back and composed player, and his presence could assist Shaw in the transition to his new team. There are also senior players like Rahul Tripathi, Ankit Bawne, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary in the team.
Shaw said he was delighted to have the opportunity to play with these players and is excited about the season.
He said:
“I’m happy to get the opportunity to play alongside talented players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary in the Maharashtra team."
Shaw's domestic record continues to be impressive. He has accumulated 4556 runs at 46.02 from 58 first-class games. He scored a century on debut in Tests aged 18 and has a T20 strike rate of 151.54 from 117 matches.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association gave him a warm welcome. MCA President Rohit Pawar stated:
"We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s calibre to the Maharashtra team. Shaw’s international and IPL experience will be invaluable, especially for mentoring younger players in the squad. Maharashtra Cricket Association stands firmly behind Prithvi in his new journey, and we wish him the very best for the seasons ahead"
It provides Shaw with an opportunity to revive his career, and if he succeeds, it might pave the way for a comeback to the big league.
