Birmingham: The Indian team won the second match of the five-match Test series being played between India and England by 336 runs. This match was played at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This is the first time India has been successful in winning a Test match on this ground. Earlier, the Indian team had to face defeat in 7 matches on this ground. While one match was a draw. Now the Indian team has broken the pride of the British by winning at Edgbaston.

The Indian team has achieved such a feat for the first time in 58 years. India played its first match at Edgbaston in 1967. Since then the Indian team had not won. But by winning this match, it broke this record as well. With this win, the Indian team equalized the series 1-1.

Status of India’s first innings

England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, the Indian team scored 587 runs. Captain Shubman Gill scored 269 runs in the first innings for India. During this, Gill hit 30 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 87, Ravindra Jadeja scored 89, Washington Sundar scored 42 and Karun Nair scored 31 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir took 3 wickets, Chris Woakes took 2 and Josh Tongue took 2 wickets.

England were bundled out for 407 in the first innings

England did not have a good start in the first innings. However, even after that, England scored 407 runs in the first innings. During this, Jamie Smith played an unbeaten innings of 184 runs. Harry Brook played an innings of 158 runs. In this innings, 6 England batsmen could not even open their account. The Indian team gained a lead of 180 runs in the first innings. Bowling for India in the first innings, Siraj took 6 wickets and Akash Deep took 4 wickets.

Gill’s power was seen in the second innings as well

In the second innings, the Indian team declared the innings after scoring 427 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In this innings, Shubman Gill again played a record innings. Gill played an innings of 161 runs. Apart from him, Pant scored 65, Jadeja scored 69, KL Rahul scored 55 runs. With a lead of 180 runs in the first innings, India’s total score became 607 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir took 2 wickets and Josh Tang took 2 wickets.

England got the target of 608 runs

England had a bad start chasing the target of 608 runs. Jack Crowley got out without scoring any runs. After that Ben Duckett got out after scoring 25, Ollie Pope 24 and Root 6 runs. From here Harry Brook and Ben Stokes scored some runs. Brook scored 23, Stokes scored 33. During this, Jamie Smith stood at one end and completed his half-century. Smith got out after scoring 88 runs. England could score only 271 runs in the second innings. The Indian team won this match by 336 runs. Akash Deep took 6 wickets for India. Apart from him, Siraj took one, Prasidh Krishna took one, Jadeja took one and Sundar took 1 wicket.
