Beloved Gogglebox star Emmie Silbery has died, aged 96, after a battle with dementia. Her granddaughter Isabelle Silbery announced the tragic news on Instagram and shared Emmie's last words before she passed away. Taking to the picture-sharing site, she wrote: "Our Emmie waited for me to come home for one last snuggle. Her last words 'I'm ready to hang up now." Isabelle continued: "She was 96, an orphan, a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, the oldest woman on TV, a great-grandmother, an author and so much more. Thank you for loving her as much as we did and will forever. Have a big rest now- you deserve it. Xxxx."

The tragic news comes after Emmie quit the Australian version of the show in 2022 after 14 seasons following her dementia diagnosis. Tributes poured in for Emmie following news of her death. Gogglebox Australia stars Lee and Keith wrote: "Our hearts are so heavy with sadness. Emmie was our adopted grandmother to Keith and I as we lost our grandparents years ago. You told us so many stories about your life and now they are memories for us to keep. Rest in peace, sweetheart you'll never be far from our hearts. Love ya Emm." Another remarked: "Beautiful Emmie. Words can't describe what you meant to so many of us. Thank you for the countless laughs, tears, goosebumps and memories! Rest now. Your girls are so loved and looked after."

Fans also penned heartfelt tributes as one shared: "Oh I am just so so sorry to hear. Sending so much love to you and your family."

Another commented: "Sending my condolences, she seemed like such a lovely and amazing woman. Thank you for sharing her with us."

"Everyone's tv Nan Sending all my love to you all," a third offered.

A fourth penned: "Condolences to you and yours. Thank you for welcoming us into your lounge room and sharing you're wonderful Nan with u."(sic)

The Silbery family, comprising Emmie, Kerry and Isabelle, first appeared on Gogglebox in 2015.

Seven years and 14 seasons later, it was announced that Emmie would no longer be appearing on the show due to her dementia diagnosis.

"We are sad to announce that Emmie won't be joining us on the couch for Gogglebox Australia this season," they posted on Instagram at the time.

"It's been a very challenging time for our family and we've had to make some difficult decisions. Emmie has been diagnosed with dementia and we wanted to be transparent about this as many families experience it.

"Emmie will be watching and rest assured she's happy and being cared for."
