It would not be a transfer window without a Chelsea player making the move across London to Arsenal. Kepa Arrizabalaga did exactly that one week ago as he joined the Gunners to provide competition for David Raya between the sticks.

That may not be the only deal the clubs strike between themselves, though. Noni Madueke could follow in Kepa's footsteps over the coming weeks as Mikel Arteta looks to upgrade his squad for a big season in the capital.

The England international was a regular for Enzo Maresca during the 2024/25 season but there is a good chance he moves on for a new challenge elsewhere. Madueke has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and now it is about the clubs coming to an agreement over the 23-year-old.

When it comes to adding more quality to the final third, the ex-PSV man could prove to be a shrewd signing as he can operate from either flank. Madueke's 2024/25 season is still ongoing due to Chelsea's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup and it has been a decent one in terms of numbers with 11 goals and five assists

One thing that does need to be clarified with Madueke is his homegrown status for the Premier League and Champions League as it has resulted in some confusion amongst the Arsenal fanbase. In both competitions, Arsenal will have to name a 25-man playing squad come the start of September and this comprises of a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players and the rest of the squad is made up by homegrown players.

The rules do differ slightly in UEFA competition as those eight homegrown spots are split into four club-trained players and four association trained players. A club-trained player is someone on a club's books for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.

Association-trained players are those who were on another club's books in the same association for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21. Unfortunately for Arsenal, Madueke is not classed as homegrown in UEFA competition despite the fact he was born in Barnet and is an England international.

Madueke spent time with Crystal Palace and Tottenham as a youngster prior to departing for PSV in June 2018 when he was 16 years of age. This means he cannot be classed as homegrown as he wasn't part of an English club for three entire seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.

The player will also have non-homegrown status in the Premier League as he wasn't registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

In terms of the Premier League, Arsenal currently have 14 non-homegrown players but that number looks set to increase very soon once Christian Norgaard and Viktor Gyokeres sign on. It could be a bit of a balancing act for Arteta come September but Arsenal should be able to comfortably comply with the regulations as a handful of their foreign players could move on elsewhere prior to the transfer deadline.
