Surya Sethupathi, the son of the celebrated Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, is making his entrance into the film industry with his debut movie Phoenix.

As anticipation grows for his first appearance on the big screen, the young actor is also encountering the inevitable scrutiny associated with being the offspring of a star-particularly the "nepo kid" label. Nevertheless, instead of avoiding the term, Surya has confronted it with unexpected maturity and humility.

In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Surya articulated that he doesn't perceive the term "nepo kid" in a negative light. "There's nothing wrong with being called a nepo kid. It simply indicates that your father has a legacy. That's not something to feel ashamed of. However, it also implies that you must work twice as hard. As a nepo kid, you need to exert more effort than your father. The journey isn't given to you-you must earn your place, and those challenges will define you," he expressed openly.
Surya reveals how Vijay Sethupathi keeps him grounded

What truly distinguishes Surya's upbringing is its grounded nature. In spite of his father's fame and achievements, he was never afforded a life of excess. "My father provides me with 500 rupees a day for my expenses. That's how I was brought up. I've faced challenges since childhood, and that's why I'm committed to making my own name in cinema-not due to my last name, but because I've earned it," he disclosed.
