On Tuesday, the owners of old vehicles in Delhi got temporary relief, but this relief is not going to last long. CAQM (Commission for Air Quality Management) Has postponed the plan to fuel and impose a fine on 10 -year -old diesel and more than 15 years old petrol vehicles till 1 November 2025. However, after this date, strict action will be taken on these vehicles, which will be effective in 5 districts of NCR including Delhi.
CAQM has made it clear under its revised order Direction 89 that this policy will also be implemented in Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Sonipat and Gautam Buddha Nagar from 1 November 2025. The decision is on the meeting after a meeting with the Environment Secretary.
End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles will not be given fuel from petrol pumps under No Fuel Policy. Its aim is that these old vehicles automatically move away from the road and it can reduce air pollution. “The objective of this policy is to remove the air of Delhi-NCR by removing vehicles that damage the environment from the road.”
CAQM states that the policy has not been withdrawn, but has been postponed for a few months, given technical and practical challenges. This will give state governments and concerned agencies a chance to make better preparations.
No Fuel Policy will be fully implemented from 1 November 2025, under which old vehicles will not get petrol-diesel and if these vehicles are found on the road, they will be fined up to ₹ 10,000. This step is being seen as a major initiative to curb air pollution.
Let me tell you that from 1 July 2025 in Delhi, fuel on old vehicles was banned, due to which there was heavy resentment among the vehicle owners. After this, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a minister in the Delhi government, wrote a letter to CAQM requesting to postpone the scheme by November and implement it together in other cities of NCR. The government believed that the current system has shortcomings and it is not practical to implement it immediately.
