Mark Petchey will help appoint a new coach for Emma Raducanu as she bids to return to the world's top 20. The former male British No.1 has juggled his TV commitments with coaching the former US Open since March. After her third-round defeat at Wimbledon, Raducanu admitted retaining Petchey during the US hardcourt season would be "very difficult".

But Petchey, 54, said the "situation is a little fluid" and has left the door open to remain part of an expanded coaching team. "At the moment, we are a bit more short-term," he told the Grand Slam Daily podcast. "She is practising this week here in London. Her next tournament is going to be in Washington and then she will stay out in the States for the whole time. Obviously our situation is a little fluid at the moment.

"I am going to help her this week as much as I can. I have some other commitments I can't get out of. Look, we are very aware she needs a second coach to come in on board and maybe just one coach, not me as well.

"All I am trying to do here is try to facilitate the best possible environment for Emms to produce the tennis that she can, whether that involves me or doesn't involve me, it's really not a question I'm worried about.

"It just means we are trying to find something that is going to be really stable and good for her." Any new coach would be her seventh full-time coach since turning pro. Raducanu was a break up in both sets before losing 7-6 6-4 to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.

"It was a great tennis match," Petchey added. "Really believed she had a chance of winning. She has been hitting the ball great since her Tuesday practice. I have personally gone out and sought out opinions from people that I respect in the industry that are coaching, asking what they felt about the match, what she could have done better.

"That gives you a little bit of a chance to formulate a plan going forward for practice this week and obvious for her future. Yeah, in general more positives than negatives. There is still a little part of you that thinks, what might have been, what might have been."

Asked to sum up his experience with Raducanu, former world No.80 Petchey said: "Listen, I've had a great time. Been very fortunate to coach two of Britain's biggest stars, in Andy Murray and Emma, obviously it comes with a lot of pressure. You take it very personally.

"You are always questioning yourself. You always want to do the best for them. When you have somebody's career in your hands to some degree, it obviously is extremely stressful and you are always looking to make sure you are making all the right decisions at the right times. Listen, I think she's in a good spot.

"It's obviously a big summer for her, she has got very few points coming off until March next year. She can really make a big push to the top 20 and at that is obviously her goal."
