Mumbai: Just a few days after the Palava flyover was opened for vehicular movement with an aim to ease traffic between Dombivli, Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai, it has already received heavy criticism. Several netizens are even making fun of the construction quality and agencies invloved in the work .

Meanwhile, commuters using the stretch have expressed over the poor quality construction of the flyover. Two bikes slipped because of too much tar, which led to the sudden shutdown of the new flyover in Kalyan. In less than a week, people are calling it a ‘slippery zone’ full of loose stones, wet mud, cement patches, and uneven tar work.

Rs 250 crores spent in vain

The Palava flyover, built with an aim to with an aim to ease traffic between Dombivli, Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai, is 562 meters long and came up at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. But within only four days of its opening, 450 meters of it got damaged. It was meant to help reduce traffic between Shilphata and Kalyan, but that goal seems far now.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) wants a full inspection, and Shiv Sena (UBT) is demanding strong action over the bad quality work. Later that day, after officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) admitted the mistake, the road was repaired using gritting, and then reopened to traffic.

A video posted by someone on social media shows the road surface of the newly opened Palava flyover already coming off, just one day after the opening ceremony. The person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Such poor quality roads. Opened on 4th July, full of potholes on 5th July. The road didn’t even last one full day. This is how the Palava Flyover on Kalyan Shil Road looks now.”
