Actor Ajay Devgn found himself amid a political and cultural debate when he was asked about the ongoing Hindi-Marathi language row during the trailer launch of Son of Sardaar 2. Known for his powerful screen presence, the actor kept it short but impactful. Slipping into his famous ‘Singham’ persona, he replied with his signature dialogue, “Aata Majhi Satakli,” drawing chuckles from the audience and applause from fans.
The debate was reignited in April when the Maharashtra government directed all state-run primary schools to include Hindi as a third language, in addition to Marathi and English. The move was in line with India’s national three-language policy, but it also stirred political tension. Opposing voices came from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, both critical of the decision to introduce Hindi in Marathi-medium schools.
The issue escalated after multiple videos surfaced online showing MNS workers allegedly harassing non-Marathi-speaking citizens, sparking widespread concern and online debate.
Singer Udit Narayan recently called for unity and mutual respect, saying, “We live in Maharashtra, and it is my 'Karma bhoomi' (workplace). So, the language here is also important… all the languages in our country are equally important.”
Veteran singer Anoop Jalota echoed similar sentiments: “Every language is important… Hindi is the mother tongue of our country. But learning other languages is always a plus.”
‘CID’ actor Hrishikesh Pandey took a practical approach, emphasizing the challenge of instantly adapting to a new language: “People come from all states for work. Not everyone can learn a new language instantly.”
While the debate over language policies continues to stir political and public discourse, Ajay Devgn’s one-liner subtly reminded everyone of the power of restraint—and a well-timed cinematic punch. As Son of Sardaar 2 gears up for release, Devgn’s remarks have already sparked conversation beyond cinema.
