New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah added another golden chapter to his iconic career, with his 15th five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the third Test between England and India at Lord’s. The Indian paceman continued from where he left off in the first Test at Headingley, taking his second successive five-for in the series after missing the Edgbaston Test.

Bumrah dismissed Jofra Archer in the second session to etch his name on the iconic Lord’s honours board. The Indian star, who dismissed Harry Brook on Day 1, added four wickets to his tally, including the prized scalps of Joe Root and Ben Stokes on the second day.

Smith, Carse lead England’s recovery after Bumrah’s early burst

His early burst put India in complete control, but a superb 84-run partnership between Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) took England to a decent total of 387.

Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Reddy were also among the wickets, picking up two each, while Jadeja snared a scalp. Meanwhile, Akash Deep, who picked up a magnificent 10-wicket haul in the Edgbaston Test, went wicketless.

Root was the top scorer for England with 104 (199). The iconic English batter completed his 37th century and eighth at Lord’s on the first ball of the day. He surpassed iconic Indian batter Rahul Dravid and Aussie legend Steve Smith’s tally of 36 centuries and broke into the list of the top five for most centuries in Test cricket.

The right-handed batter is now just one century shy of equalling Kumar Sangakkara’s record of 38 centuries.
