Perplexity on Wednesday launched its in-house web browser, Comet. This artificial intelligence (AI) based browser is equipped with the company's search engine and many AI features. The most special thing about this browser is its sidebar assistant, which can answer the user's questions by extracting information from all the open tabs, can create a summary of the webpage, and can also do some tasks on behalf of the user.

Currently available only to Max subscribers

Perplexity informed about the Comet browser through a post on X (formerly Twitter). The company shared a video showing the capabilities and features of this AI web browser. At the time of launch, Comet will be available only to those users who are on Perplexity's $200 (about Rs 17,100 per month) Max subscription plan.

Those who do not have this subscription can join the waitlist. The company has said that this invite-only access will be rolled out to users registered on the waitlist in the summer. Also, a limited number of invites will be given to some new users. The special thing is that Comet is based on Chromium and is currently available only on Windows and Mac operating systems.

What are the special features of Comet?

The Comet browser will have the same search engine that is used on Perplexity's platform; that is, when users search for a topic, they will get the same answer and layout as is found on Perplexity.

Apart from this, the AI-powered sidebar assistant in it can help users in different tabs and projects. For example, if a user opens a product page on an e-commerce website, then this chatbot can find that product with faster delivery from another website.
