A new twist has come to light in the famous PCS Jyoti Maurya case of Uttar Pradesh. Jyoti Maurya’s husband, Alok Maurya, has moved the Allahabad High Court seeking to obtain alimony from his officer’s wife. The case has not only made personal disputes into the headlines, but has also questioned marital and social responsibilities. Come, let us get into the depth of this case and understand what message Alok Maurya’s petition and High Court gives the message.
The marital dispute between Jyoti Maurya, a noted PCS officer, and her husband Alok Maurya has been a topic of discussion for a long time. Alok has claimed that his wife, who is a highly placed government official, earns more than him. On the other hand, Alok’s income is limited, due to which he is facing difficulties in running his livelihood. On this basis, Alok had demanded alimony in the family court of Azamgarh, but his petition was dismissed. Dissatisfied with this decision, Alok filed an appeal in the Allahabad High Court.
The bench of the Allahabad High Court, which included Justice Arindam Sinha and Dr. YK Srivastava considered Alok Maurya’s appeal. Alok argued in his petition that his wife should be provided alimony till the strengthening of the economic condition of the marital disputes. Taking the matter seriously, the High Court has issued a notice to Jyoti Maurya. The court has fixed August 8, 2025 for the next hearing of the case.
However, the court also mentioned that Alok’s appeal was filed by a delay of 77 days from the scheduled time and a certified copy of the decree of the family court was also not submitted. Despite this, Alok demanded a discount to forgive the delay and file a copy, which the court accepted for consideration. This step shows that the High Court is committed to fair and intensive hearing in the case.
The case of Jyoti Maurya and Alok Maurya is not limited to only a personal dispute; It also highlights serious issues like gender roles and economic inequality in the society. Traditionally, alimony has been sought by women, but in this case a man raising such a demand gives a new direction to social debate. The question arises whether the law and society are now ready to consider men as entitled to financial assistance in marital disputes?
Following the notice issued by the Allahabad High Court, everyone’s eyes are on the hearing of August 8. On this date, the court will decide whether the demand for alimony of Alok Maurya is justified and will Jyoti Maurya be given any order in this regard. This case is not only important from a legal point of view, but it can also affect society’s thinking towards marital relations and family responsibilities.
