Joe Root Gets Bowled Around His Legs by Washington Sunder: The India vs England 3rd Test at Lord’s continued to ebb and flow as Washington Sundar castled Joe Root around his leg to break a solid partnership between the former England captain and the current England captain, Ben Stokes.

After India were bowled out for 387 runs on day 3, exactly as England’s first innings total, day 4 of the IND vs ENG Lord’s Test began with the Indian bowlers putting pressure on the hosts.

England lost their top three for 50 runs, with wickets going to Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Reddy. The hosts suffered a huge blow at the stroke of lunch when they lost the aggressive Harry Brook for 23 (19) to Akash Deep.

Then, England’s two most experienced batsmen took control in the post-lunch session, with the duo shedding the attacking Bazball methods and instead playing sensible, traditional cricket, playing the deliveries to their merits.

That got England past the 150-run mark. However, as Joe Root went for a sweep off Washington Sundar, targeting the region behind square on the leg side for a boundary, he failed to get any bat on the ball before the ball thudded into the leg stump after passing around his legs.

The wicket came against the run of play as both Root and Stokes had gotten settled in their 67-run partnership, with Root threatening a fourth century in four consecutive innings at Lord’s. But he had to depart for 40 runs.

Washington Sundar produced a proper corker to hit the off-stump of Jamie Smith as India looked in command. Meanwhile, at the time of writing, England are 164/6, with Stokes and Chris Woakes at the crease. England would be hoping to set India a target of more than 250, which India would want to restrict the hosts to less than 250.

With the pitch doing plenty of things today, assisting both the pacers and spinners with uneven bounce and grip, the game is set for an exciting finish.
