Mohammed Siraj Shoulder Bumps Ben Duckett: Mohammed Siraj is normally charged up, especially when he’s playing Test cricket. He has been utterly fired up since Zak Crawley’s antics in the only over England played on day 3 of the Lord’s Test. Some of that fire was flared towards Crawley’s opening partner, Ben Duckett, when the Indian seamer dismissed him at the start of day 4.
The India vs England Test series got intensified on day 3 of the 3rd Test when Crawley wasted time with a few minutes left for play. Every Indian player who was near Crawley, including Siraj, gave some mouthful to the right-handed opener.
On day 4, Siraj was pumped up and bowled with devastating menace. With the Lord’s pitch suddenly now offering seam movement and uneven bounce, the first hour of play on day 4 was dominated by Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah as run-scoring became extremely challenging.
In his third over, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Duckett, who went for his characteristic attacking shot, though not recognising that with the ball doing plenty, it would have perhaps been wiser to remain patient for a while.
Siraj barged in a 140 kmph back-of-length delivery outside the off-stump. The left-handed England opener pulled the short ball, aiming to hit it over Bumrah at mid-on. However, Duckett didn’t get enough bat and power in his shot, with his timing and direction all awry, and offered a simple catch to Bumrah, who accepted it gleefully.
No sooner had Bumrah completed the catch than Siraj began celebrating wildly. He was a live wire as he ramped up his aggression and gave a fiery send-off to Duckett. Siraj and Duckett got closer to each other, with the pacer roaring in his face. The pair also had a little shoulder bump, but neither looked back at the other.
This in-the-face celebration and the subsequent shoulder bump could land Siraj in some trouble with the match referee, who could levy a fine on the Indian pacer and perhaps even hand him a demerit point.
Meanwhile, at the time of writing, England are 38/1 with Crawley and Pope at the crease. Both the batsmen have been lucky to have survived Siraj and Bumrah so far, with the pace duo inducing several false shots.
Earlier, both teams were dismissed for 387 runs in their first innings, making this game now effectively a one-innings shoot-out.
