Badminton player Saina Nehwal announced separation from her husband Parupalli Kashyap on Monday. The Olympic medallist announced the development in a post on Instagram saying that they are choosing "peace, growth, and healing - for ourselves and each other."

"Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways," Nehwal said in a post on her Instagram Stories.

"We're choosing peace, growth, and healing - for ourselves and each other. I'm grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time," she added.

The shuttler couple got married in 2018.

Nehwal, who won a Bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics trained at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad. Parupalli Kashyap, who also made a name for himself after winning gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2014 also trained the same academy.
