Launched in March, the campaign seeks to affirm the health sector’s strong determination in reducing risks associated with HPV (Human Papillomavirus), a virus that commonly causes cervical cancer and some cancers in both women and men. Since its launch, the initiative has received positive public feedback.

Joining the campaign, Hari Won has openly shared her personal story and advocated for proactive community health measures. Known for her cheerful and energetic public image, Hari Won experienced an extremely sensitive and challenging period in her life. At the peak of her career, she began experiencing unusual symptoms and was advised by doctors to undergo thorough testing. After multiple biopsies and close monitoring, Hari Won endured anxious days filled with uncertainty, wondering, “Do I have cancer?”

Though Hari Won tried to appear strong as a public figure, deep inside she felt confused and isolated. Eventually, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, an experience that left her feeling fearful, helpless, and overwhelmed by information about HPV.

Following this difficult time, Hari Won became a passionate advocate for HPV awareness and early prevention. “I used to think I was young and healthy, and that nothing could happen to me,” she said. “But when I faced the risk myself, I realized health should never be taken lightly. Being proactive about your health is something no one else can do for you.”

Through sharing her emotional and resilient story, Hari Won encourages people, particularly young adults and parents, to actively learn about HPV, seek vaccination at appropriate ages, and maintain regular health screenings. Her message will be widely disseminated across various media platforms, including personal story videos on Vietcetera, real-life reports on Vietnam Television (VTV), and articles in major news outlets such as Read. The goal is to reach diverse audiences, stimulate community interest, and encourage preventive action.

The Ministry of Health’s nationwide campaign aims to change public perception by emphasizing personal responsibility. At the campaign’s launch, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen called on all citizens to commit to a healthy lifestyle and proactive disease prevention. “Together, we can effectively protect, care for, and improve public health,” he said.

Dr. Phan Trong Giao, Medical Director at MSD Vietnam, affirmed MSD’s commitment to providing accurate, science-based medical information about HPV prevention. “We are proud to collaborate with health authorities, social organizations, and inspiring individuals like Hari Won to build a future free from the burden of HPV.”
