In Sharjah, an Indian woman committed suicide by killing her one and a half year old girl. A few days after the case, a case of dowry harassment has been registered against the victim’s husband Nidhish Valiwati and her family at Kundra police station in Kollam district of Kerala. The family members of the deceased allege that since the marriage, mental and physical pressure was being made for dowry.

A woman from North India shifted to Sharjah with her husband a few years ago. On July 8, the woman and her one and a half year old daughter were found dead in her apartment in Sharjah. Now the family members of the deceased allege that the deceased’s husband Nidhish Valiviyati used to torture his daughter repeatedly over dowry. The deceased’s mother Shailaja has alleged that her daughter was being given mental and physical torture for dowry after marriage. He says that after the birth of the daughter, harassment and violence increased even more, causing the woman to break mentally and took this drastic step.

Police action

The Indian Police has registered a case under Section 304B (dowry death) and 498A (cruelty by spouse) of the IPC. The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy have been requested to bring the body to India and cooperate in the investigation of the case.

The Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs are in touch with local authorities in the UAE. The process continues to bring the dead bodies to India and cooperate in the judicial inquiry.
