Note

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had ordered that all banks must provide 100 rupees and 200 rupee notes in their ATM machine. Now its effect is starting to appear. A report said that 73 percent of the country's ATMs have now become such, in which at least 1 cassette is getting 100 rupees or 200 rupee notes.

This number was 65 percent in December 2024. This means that now this number is continuously improving.

The aim of the Reserve Bank is to make 100 and 200 rupee notes available, so that the common people get small notes easily for everyday transactions and they do not have trouble for retail notes in shops or banks at the time of need. Especially it will be very helpful for people of rural and small cities.

60% people spend in cash

CMS Info Systems, the country's largest company, which provided cash in ATM, has shared this information. This company runs 73,000 ATM out of 2.15 lakh ATMs in India. This company said that the availability of notes is improving. Anush Raghavan, an official of the company, said that 60% of people in India still spend their expenses in cash. In such a situation, it is very important for small notes to be in ATM, so that people do not have problems in daily purchases and small transactions.

The company official said that if 100 and 200 rupee notes are available directly from the ATM, then it will be easy for people to withdraw money according to their needs. People will have to depend not only on online for small transactions.

What did RBI order
A circular was issued by the Reserve Bank of India in April 2025, stating that by 30 September 2025, all banks will have to decide that at least 75 percent of their ATMs should come out of 100 or 200 rupee notes. After this, this figure will have to be reached by 90 percent by 31 March 2026. This will provide small notes in most ATMs and people will get more facilities in everyday works.

Cash withdrawn from ATM became expensive
The Reserve Bank has made some changes in the rules for withdrawing money from ATMs since 1 May 2025. Now after transacting more than the limit in the month, they will have to pay more in advance. When you withdraw money from the ATM of another bank instead of your bank, then another bank pays 'interchange fees'. Most of the expenses are charged from the customers itself. Now this fee has also been changed. At the same time, the transaction limit has also been reduced.

How much will be charged now

Now if you withdraw cash after the limit from ATM, then you will have to pay a charge of 19 rupees per transaction, which was earlier 17 rupees. On the other hand, if you do non-financial transaction like checking balance, then it will be charged a charge of 7 rupees, which was earlier 6 rupees. But this fee will be felt only when you use ATM more often than the limit of your free transaction.

What is the limit to withdraw money from ATM?
If you live in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad, then you can do free transactions 3 times from another bank ATM every month. But if you live in non -metro i.e. small cities, then this limit is 5 times. If the transaction is not complete due to no money in ATM or technical problem, then it will not be added to free transactions and there will be no charge on it.
