Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s decision to retire from Test cricket shocked the cricket fans. When this news came out during the IPL and before the tour of England, the two giants said goodbye to different Test cricket, then there was resentment about BCCI on social media. The fans alleged that perhaps the board pressured these two players to retire.
Now on this entire controversy, BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla has clarified the situation and said that the board never pressures a player to retire. He said that this was completely Rohit and Virat’s personal decision and the board has nothing to do with it.
Rajiv Shukla said in a conversation with ANI that I want to clarify once more that we all feel the absence of Rohit and Virat, but they have taken this decision themselves. The BCCI policy is that we never tell a player when and from which format he should retire. This is a completely player’s decision. He has retired on his own free will. We will always miss them. We consider him a great batsman. The good thing is that they are available for ODIs.
India’s visit to Bangladesh was scheduled in August, but it has been postponed at the moment. In such a situation, there may be a delay in Rohit and Virat’s next international return. According to the current schedule, Team India will play their next ODI against Australia on 19 October.
However, according to media reports, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has approached the BCCI for a white ball series next month. If this series is fixed, then the fans may get a chance to see Virat and Rohit once again in the field.
After the announcement of Virat and Rohit’s retirement, fans on social media targeted the BCCI. Many users claimed that these two players were forcibly removed from the Test team. But after Rajiv Shukla’s latest statement, it has now become clear that this was completely the players’ decision.
The BCCI may have made it clear that the players retired from the Test had their own decision, but the hopes of the fans are still alive. Virat and Rohit are currently available for the ODI and T20 teams and in the upcoming tournaments, both of them can once again be seen on the field.
