Roger Federer, who claimed 20 Grand Slam titles between 2003 and 2018, earned $130.6 million in prize money over his career, or just 10% of his wealth.

The remainder of his fortune stems from savvy investments and high-profile endorsement deals, according to Bloombergwhich recognized him as a billionaire in late June.

His most lucrative investment has been his stake in Swiss sneaker company On. He acquired about 3% of the brand in 2019 after noticing how popular its shoes were with his wife and friends, and even collaborated with the company to design his own shoe.

“It’s incredible that this wonderful company is headquartered so close to where I live,” Federer told Forbes of the firm in 2021. “Because the pandemic forced me to be home so much for the last 18 months, I have had the opportunity to work with them much more than in normal times.”

The brand has since become a major hit in the U.S. and is now valued at around $17 billion, making Federer’s stake worth at least $500 million, nearly 40% of his total fortune.

Federer has also built a portfolio of long-term endorsement deals, working with more than a dozen global brands. Several of these partnerships, such as those with Credit Suisse (now UBS), Swiss confectionery company Lindt, German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz, and Swiss luxury watch brand Rolex, have lasted more than a decade.

He reportedly earned around $8 million annually from Rolex, $5 million a year from Mercedes-Benz, and about $20 million in total from Lindt, according to Fortune magazine.

In 2018, Japanese retailer Uniqlo signed him for $300 million over 10 years as one of its global ambassadors.

Federer has a strong advice network, including Team8, the management firm he co-founded in 2013 with longtime agent Tony Godsick, and Format A AG, a Swiss company that helps manage his portfolio of investments and oversees his charitable foundation.
