The fourth Test match between India and England will be played at the Old Trafford ground in Manchester from July 23 (IND vs ENG 4th Test Date).

After three matches, England is leading the series 2-1. This will be a do-or-die match for Team India, because even a defeat or a draw will make it impossible for them to win the series.

Before the fourth Test begins, let us take a look at who holds the upper hand at the Manchester ground — India or England?

First of all, let us examine the head-to-head record between India and England in Test cricket.

A total of 139 Test matches have been played between the two nations so far, with England winning 53 times and Team India securing victory on 36 occasions. Meanwhile, 50 Test matches between India and England have ended in draws.

Talking about Manchester’s Old Trafford ground, nine Test matches have been played between India and England here so far.

Out of these, England has won four times, while the remaining five matches ended in a draw. Team India has never won a Test match at Old Trafford in history. India came closest to victory at this venue in 1974, when they lost to England by 113 runs.

India and England last faced off at this ground in 2014. In that match, England posted 367 runs in one innings. In response, the Indian team struggled so badly that it failed to score a combined total of 367 runs across both innings. Ultimately, Team India lost that match by an innings and 54 runs.

Most of the current Indian players have never played a Test match at Old Trafford. The highest run-scorer for India at this ground is Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 242 runs in five innings.

No Indian batsman who debuted in the 21st century has managed to reach the 200-run mark in Test matches at this venue.
