New Expressways: With the rise in the number of electric vehicles, NHAI has made a major announcement. After the Lucknow Expressway, electric vehicle charging stations will be added to two more expressways.

The Gwalior and Aligarh Expressways will be constructed starting two months from now for 22-24 months. These expressways will start from Agra. In addition to the charging station, there will also be food plazas and one to two petrol and CNG pumps on either side of the expressway. Work is underway to determine these locations.

Both of these new expressways will be six-lane roads. An NHAI official stated that construction will be done by NHAI Gwalior Agra section. He also mentioned that there is a growing electric vehicle user base. New electric vehicle models are being released every week thereby increasing the number of vehicles on the road.

On one side of the Gwalior Expressway, there will be two stations and on the other side, there will be two as well. At each point, two vehicles can be charged simultaneously and the entire process will take between 15 to 20 minutes. Additionally, two estaciones will be constructed on either side of the Aligarh Expressway. Also, Plaza toilets for each gender will be constructed separately. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food will be served at the food plaza.

Gwalior Expressway

The expressway is under construction from Gwalior to Rohta, Agra for Rs 4200 crore. A hanging bridge over Chambal river is planned and has received permission. The NHAI Gwalior section plans to start in October, and work will be performed over a 24 month span.

Agra will now be 88 km from Gwalior after the expressway is constructed. This trip will take an hour and a half, down from the current two to two and a half hour duration. The expressway will be integrated with the third phase of the inner ring road, streamlining access to Yamuna Expressway, Lucknow Expressway, and National Highway-19.

Aligarh Expressway

The construction of a 64 km long expressway from Khandauli to Aligarh will begin this month. This expressway will be connected to the Yamuna expressway which will facilitate access to Hathras and Aligarh. Work on the new expressway is planned to start in October and is expected to be completed within two years. The cost of this project is estimated to be Rs 3400 crore.

The work on this project will be phased. The first segment to be completed will be the two year estimate, with the section from Khandauli to Teedi Bagiya Chauraha receiving most of the focus. This section of the road will also be undergoing expansion to alleviate capacity issues. A barrier will also be constructed as well as an elevated road connecting Teedi Bagiya Chauraha to Rambagh Chauraha.
