Bank manager suicide: A senior official of Bank of Baroda committed suicide in the bank premises in Baramati city of Pune district of Maharashtra. The deceased Shivshankar Mitra was the Chief Manager of the Bank. He has left a suicide note before suicide, in which he has described excessive work pressure as the reason for suicide. This incident is late on Thursday night, which has shocked the local banking world.
Shivshankar Mitra recently resigned on July 11 citing his health and work tension and he was on the notice period. Meanwhile, he took this sad step. When his wife reached the bank late at night, the incident was revealed.
According to the police, after the work of the bank’s functioning on Thursday evening, Shivshankar Mitra sent all the employees home and said that they will close the branch themselves. The watchman also left at 9:30 pm. Earlier, Mitra had ordered a rope from a colleague. Police said that at around 10 pm, they hanged them with the same rope. This entire incident was recorded in the bank’s CCTV.
When Mitra did not return home till late night nor responded to the phone, his wife reached the bank worried. He saw that the light inside was burning but the door was closed. On not getting the answer, he called the other bank staff and opened the door. On going inside, Mitra was found hanging from the roof.
Inspector Vilas Nalla of Baramati City Police Station said that a suicide note has been found from Mitra’s pants pocket. In this note, he has clearly written that he is committing suicide due to excessive work pressure. He also appealed that no pressure should be put on any of his colleagues and also made it clear that there is no fault of the family behind his move.
This case once again raises the question that to what extent the increasing stress at the workplace can affect someone’s mental state. The constant pressure on the employees working in the banking sector and the race to meet the target, many times are proving fatal.
