Bahrain launched its Golden Residency program in 2022 as part of Vision 2030, offering a more flexible and cost-effective long-term visa compared to similar programs in the Gulf.

Unlike most Gulf visas, Bahrain’s program does not require employer sponsorship, allowing holders to work with any companyfreelance, or start their own business.

Bahrain’s Golden Residency Emerges as Gulf’s Most Flexible and Affordable Long-Term Visa

The country has a lower cost of living than cities like Dubai or Riyadh, making it more financially accessible for professionals and families.

There are no re-entry restrictions, so visa holders can live abroad without losing their residency status — a benefit for retirees and remote workers.

The visa allows for easy sponsorship of family members — including spouses, children, and parents — without needing them to meet separate income or employment requirements.

Bahrain’s Golden Residency is noted for being more affordable and flexible, offering long-term regional residency with fewer constraints and more benefits for families and professionals.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet one of four eligibility criteria:

Skilled professionals: At least 5 years of residence in Bahrain and a monthly income of BHD 2,000 (≈ USD 5,300).

Retirees: Residents must earn BHD 2,000/month in pension; non-residents must earn BHD 4,000/month.

Property owners: Must own real estate in Bahrain worth at least BHD 200,000.

Exceptional talent: Individuals recognized in science, arts, technology, or entrepreneurship.
