Washington. American President Donald Trump has implemented the Big Beautiful Act on July 4. He also had a fight with his friend and billionaire Elon Musk over this bill. Musk has even left Trump and formed a separate American party. Many Indian Americans lawmakers have also expressed opposition to this act. Amidst all this, about 52 lakh Indian-Americans are going to benefit from this act.
First, let us understand about this law. The Big Beautiful Law has come up with measures like increasing the real salary for American citizens, giving tax exemption and saving jobs. Under this, there will be no tax on overtime and tips. There will also be tax exemption on social security income. State-level provisions have been made to save jobs and increase income. Due to which 52 lakh Indian-Americans living in America will be able to take advantage.
How will Indian-Americans benefit?
The Indian-American community is the most prosperous and fastest growing immigrant group in America. The average annual income of Indian families in 2023 was $1.51 lakh (about ₹ 1.25 crores). They will see a further increase in their income after the Big Beautiful Act comes into force.
Tax exemptions
Tips, overtime, and social security income will no longer be taxed. This will especially benefit Indians working in restaurants, hotels, rideshares like Uber cabs, and the service sector. This means that the salary hike takes into account inflation, so that the real purchasing power of the people can be known.
For example, in California a family can get additional savings of ₹7.32 lakh to ₹10.76 lakh annually. In Texas, ₹6.46 lakh to ₹9.21 lakh. Similar relief is also available in New Jersey, New York, and Illinois states.
The new employment security
law is expected to protect 7.37 lakh jobs in California alone. 5.8 lakh jobs will be protected in Texas, 4.05 lakh in New York and 1.79 lakh in New Jersey. A large number of Indian families in America also have elderly people living in them. All retired Indians will get the direct benefit of exemption from social security income tax.
Why is this law important?
Indian-origin people are among the highest earning foreign communities in the US. According to Pew Research, the average annual income of non-resident Indian families is $156,000 (₹1.32 crores). This law will increase the take home salary and strengthen financial stability.
