A heartbreaking incident at Sharda University in Greater Noida shook the entire teaching community. 21 -year -old BDS second -year student Jyoti Sharma ended her life by hanging himself in her room of girls hostels. The incident has not only questioned the functioning of the university administration, but has also highlighted the issues of safety in mental health and educational institutions of the students. Jyoti’s suicide note has made serious allegations against teachers, after which the anger of family and students erupted on the streets. Come, let us understand every aspect of this incident deeply.
Jyoti Sharma, a promising student from Gurugram, was studying at Sharda University to realize her dreams. But his suicide note revealed a terrible truth. In the note, Jyoti wrote, “PCP and teachers of Dental Medical Department are responsible for my death. Mahendra sir and sharg mam tortured me mentally. I have been in depression for a long time. I want them to be punished.” This note not only describes their pain, but also points towards the stressful atmosphere prevailing in the university.
Jyoti was allegedly accused of fake signature, after which she had to face constant insults and threats. Students say that Jyoti was driven away from the PCP department for three days and refused to sign her file. The head of the department talked about calling his parents, after which Jyoti was mentally broken. On Friday evening, she was seen crying in front of her friends, and the same night she took this suicidal step.
As the news of Jyoti’s suicide spread, there was a stir in the hostel. Angry students demonstrated in the university campus late at night and shouted slogans against the administration. Family and local people also participated in this protest on Saturday morning. The students demanded that the matter be investigated fairly and strict action should be taken against the guilty teachers. A student said, “Jyoti was our batchmate. She was very upset. We neither get good security nor food here.” Other students complained that the attitude of teachers is very strict and students are humiliated on small matters.
The incident has raised serious questions on the administrative structure of Sharda University. The students allege that the warden tried to hide Jyoti’s suicide note. Apart from this, the security system of the hostels and lack of facilities have also become a topic of discussion. A student said, “100 children come only for one faculty signature. If someone asks the question, it is immediately excluded.” These allegations show that the university is not only ignoring mental health, but also lacks basic facilities.
On receiving the information of the incident, the police station police station reached the spot and Jyoti’s body was sent for postmortem. ADCP Greater Noida Sudhir Kumar said that a case has been registered against the family members. Two named accused, Mahendra sir and sharg Maam, have been arrested. The police has started a thorough investigation into the case, and has assured the family and students that the culprits will be punished.
