IGNOU PhD Admission 2025: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started the PhD admission process for the July 2025 session. Interested and eligible candidates can now apply online by visiting the official website ignou-phd.samarth.edu.in. The last date for the application process is within 21 days of the release of the notification, so interested candidates should apply soon.

IGNOU PhD Admission: Application started in 24 subjects
IGNOU has started the application process for the PhD program in 24 subjects like Science, Management, Education, Humanities, and Law. The entrance exam will be held on January 5, 2026. The exam will be held in offline mode from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Application Fee and Application Process

The application fee for IGNOU PhD admission is Rs 1000, which is non-refundable. Admission will be done in two categories:

Category A: Candidates who have qualified with JRF in the UGC NET exam will be called directly for interview. The interview will have 100% weightage.

Category B: Candidates who have passed UGC NET but have not received fellowship can also apply.

What should be the qualification?

The minimum qualification for a PhD is to have at least 55% marks in a postgraduate degree. Candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC-Non-Creamy Layer), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other reserved categories are given a relaxation of 5% marks. MPhil degree holders can also apply with the prescribed marks.

Selection Process

UGC NET marks will have 70% weightage, and the interview will have 30% weightage in the final merit list. The interview will be held at IGNOU's Maidan Garhi, New Delhi campus, where research methodology, subject knowledge, and communication skills will be evaluated.

Important information for part-time PhD candidates
Candidates who are currently employed and wish to pursue a part-time PhD must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer, which should be as per the format given in the application guide. The list of selected candidates will be published on the official website of IGNOU. So keep checking the website regularly.
