Schools Closed: Sawan month is considered to be the holy month of devotion to Lord Shiva. This year, the month of Sawan will start from 11 July 2025 and will continue till 9 August 2025. Like other festivals, people were also very confused about the date of Sawan Shivratri. They were not able to understand whether Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 22 July or 23 July (Saawan Shivratri 2025 Date). However, it is now clear that Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 23 July 2025 (Wednesday). Sawan Shivratri holds special religious significance. Given the heavy crowd and traffic disruption on the occasion of Kanwar Yatra and Shivratri, it has been decided to close schools and colleges in many states of North India.

School Holidays in July: Why is there a holiday on Sawan Shivratri?

Sawan Shivratri is a day dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati in Hinduism. On this day, devotees offer water, Belpatra, milk, and other materials on Shivling. During the Kanwar Yatra, lakhs of devotees bring Gangajal from Haridwar, Gangotri, and other pilgrimage sites and offer it in Shiva temples. This Yatra causes crowds and traffic jams on the roads, which causes difficulty in the movement of children to schools. That is why schools are closed in sensitive cities.

Schools can take this decision at their own level. Parents are advised to check the official notice of the school.
