New Delhi: Schools across Gautam Buddh Nagar District (Noida, Greater Noida) and Ghaziabad have been ordered to shut temporarily due to the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Authorities in both districts have taken precautionary steps to minimise disruption to students and ensure the smooth passage of pilgrims. In Ghaziabad, all schools, including those affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and other boards, have remained closed for the entire week from July 17 to July 23.

In Noida, the Gautam Buddha Nagar education authorities declared a one-day closure of all schools on July 23, on the occasion of Sawan Shivratri. To maintain academic continuity, schools in Noida have been allowed to conduct online classes for pupils from Classes 1 to 12 on the day of closure. In-person learning is set to resume on July 24.

The move aims to avoid safety and transport issues linked to the anticipated surge in footfall from Kanwar Yatra participants.

Several high-density zones identified in Ghaziabad

The Ghaziabad administration, in coordination with the basic education department, identified several high-density zones, including a 25-kilometre stretch from Muradnagar to Tila Morh, a 42.5-kilometre route from Kadrabad to the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, and a 53-kilometre section along the Delhi–Meerut Expressway and NH-9.

To manage the influx, traffic police in Ghaziabad restricted heavy vehicle movement along these corridors from July 11. In addition, one entire carriageway of the Delhi–Meerut Road (in the Meerut to Ghaziabad direction) has been designated exclusively for Kanwar pilgrims since July 14.

Delhi Police issues traffic advisory

Meanwhile, in a related incident the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive travel advisory in light of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Shared via their official handle on X (formerly Twitter), the advisory cautions commuters heading from Noida towards Faridabad or central Delhi to steer clear of the Agra Canal Road and the Yamuna Bridge Road.

The advisory highlights that several roads will remain closed between 8:00 AM on July 21 and 8:00 AM on July 23.
