Uber is introducing a series of new features in Mumbai aimed at enhancing the travel experience for commuters. These include Metro ticket booking through the Uber app, priority airport access, parcel services, and new ride options tailored to specific user needs. While the Metro ticketing feature is already live in Delhi, the full set of features will soon be rolled out in Mumbai.
Uber-ONDC Partnership Brings Metro Ticketing to Mumbai’s Digital Commute
A major highlight is the integration of Mumbai Metro ticket booking into the Uber app. This is being implemented through Uber’s collaboration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), making it one of the first private platforms to offer Metro ticketing in Mumbai via ONDC. This move supports the broader goal of improving access to digital public transport options in India. The initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s visit to India, where Uber pledged to work with ONDC to expand digital public infrastructure.
Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO at ONDC, described Uber’s participation as a significant step in enhancing access to trusted and interoperable digital services. He highlighted that Uber’s involvement in metro ticketing and logistics could lead to seamless multimodal travel experiences and help unify India’s fragmented logistics system.
Expanding Urban Mobility: New Uber Features Set to Transform Travel in Mumbai
Another upcoming feature is Airport Priority Access at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, which will streamline terminal pick-ups from the P6 level, improving convenience for passengers. Uber has also launched Courier XL in Mumbai, a parcel delivery service allowing users to send packages up to 750 kg.
Additional services expected to launch soon include Uber Pet, which allows passengers to travel with pets such as cats or dogs under reserve-only rides; Price Lock, which lets users lock in fares for frequently used routes with a small upfront fee; and Wait and Save, which offers lower fares in exchange for slightly longer wait times. Other upcoming features include Uber for Seniors, with a simplified interface for ease of use, Uber for Teens, enabling parents to monitor their child’s ride, and Uber XL Plus for those needing more space or larger vehicles. These developments aim to improve accessibility, affordability, and convenience for all types of commuters in Mumbai.
Summary:
Uber is set to launch new features in Mumbai, including Metro ticket booking via ONDC, airport priority access, parcel delivery, and ride options like Uber Pet, Uber for Seniors, and Uber for Teens. These updates aim to enhance convenience, accessibility, and affordability for a wide range of commuters in the city.
