What To Expect?
It appears that the country’s four major automakers including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Renault are all set to launch their highly-anticipated hybrid family cars in 2026-2027.
To start with, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Japan-spec Suzuki Spacia-inspired sub-4 metre MPV sporting its own strong hybrid powertrain.
Similarly, Kia’s Seltos and Hyundai’s Creta will also launch its hybrid in 2026 and 2027.
At the same time, Renault Duster will make a grand comeback in 2026 with a hybrid powertrain.
Let’s have a quick look at the key details of India’s top 4 upcoming hybrid family cars.
Kia seltos hybrid
The second-gen Kia Seltos is expected to be offered with a significantly updated design which is inspired by globally sold Sportage SUV.
Its cabin will also get an upgrade with several new features, and some of them could be borrowed from the Kia Syros reportedly.
The 2026 Kia Seltos could also come with a 1.5L petrol-hybrid powertrain besides the existing engine options and its hybrid powertrain is likely to be offered only on the higher trims.
Maruti Mini MPV
As it is slated, Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain (HEV) is expected to make its debut on the Fronx compact crossover in early 2026.
This will definitely benefit the new-gen Baleno and Maruti’s new mini MPV with this new hybrid powertrain which is slated to be launched in 2026.
The new Maruti compact MPV will continue to carry an upright and boxy stance similar to the Spacia as per the media reports.
This MPV will be powered by a 1.2L Z-Series petrol-hybrid powertrain, expected to deliver fuel efficiency of over 35kmpl.
Hyundai Creta Hybrid
The next-generation Hyundai Creta, Codenamed SX3 is expected to be launched in 2027.
The 2026 Hyundai Creta hybrid might use the 1.5L petrol-hybrid powertrain setup similar to the new Seltos.
They will continue to offer the existing 115bhp, 1.5L petrol, 160bhp, 1.5L direct-injection turbo petrol and 116bhp, 1.5L diesel engines.
Besides this, we can expect the SUV’s all-new model to get comprehensive updates in design, features and interior layout.
Renault Duster Hybrid
As we already know that the upcoming third-gen Renault Duster is expected to be launched in India with petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrains.
Its petrol version could feature a 1.0L naturally aspirated or 1.3L turbo engine.
This hybrid variant is anticipated to be offered with a 94bhp, 1.6L petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack, which will have a combined power output of around 140bhp.
