Business Business ,A team of Vishwastu and Services Tax (GST) officers sent a notice to Shankar Gowda, a vegetable seller from Haweeri, Karnataka, claiming that they have made a transaction of Rs 1.63 crore in the last four years.

He has been selling vegetables for the last four years and like many of his colleagues in business, he accepts payment from customers through UPI or other digital wallets. However, this has become a major problem for them. On receiving the notice, Shankar Gowda was shocked and said, “How to pay 29 lakh rupees? It is impossible.” According to GST officials, the transaction is worth Rs 1.63 crore, and according to this, GST liability is Rs 29 lakh.

According to a report by India Today, Shankar Gowda said that he bought fresh vegetables directly from farmers and sells it in his small shop. Most customers prefer UPI payment because financial transactions are usually online. He said that every year he and his family file their income tax return (ITR) and also keep their full record.
